Putting a "signature" into an email is a handy and quick way to close your email messages without having to type the same information over and over. The signature can be anything you want from simple text to pictures and hyperlinks. This page will attempt to show how you set up a signature or even a "stationery" page using Web mail programs like Hotmail and Yahoo mail.

Hotmail

  • To setup your signature file in Hotmail, first open your Hotmail.
  • Click on the "Options" link.
  • Then, click on the Signature link under "More Options".
  • Select Mail, then "Personal e-mail signature"

  • Type in the text you want to add.
  • You can bold, italic or underline the text if you like.
  • In the picture above, I've set "Courier New" at 12, in black.
  • To set the "hyperlink" click the Web icon
  • Type or paste in the page address.
  • Click the "OK" button.
  • The next address being inserted is my favored image as shown below

This is how the signature I setup in Hotmail looks.

  • If you have a favorite image file on the Internet, you can copy/paste the picture into your Hotmail/Live Mail signature.
  • Go to the Web page where the picture is displayed and right click / copy it (Press the Ctrl key and the C key together).
  • Then, in the signature page, place your cursor where you want the image to be placed and paste. (Press the Ctrl key and the V key together).
  • Your image will be added.
  • In this example, I pasted in my animated .gif signature image which is found on my web page.
  • The image address used in the example above is: http://www.dwightblackburn.com/dwight.gif
  • If you don't have a Web site to store it on, you can use my site. Email me
  • If you want to create your own animated .gif signature file, This Google search page has many pages with tutorials and video examples.
  • Here is one program you can use for making animated .gif files: $9.95 (Note: I have not used this program).
