First, why would you want to?Well to make it simpler to move files, or to view a file in a particular program, quickly. For instance, say you want to view a file, because you're not sure exactly what it is. If you open the file in "Notepad" you don't risk running a file that may cause harm to your system while you look at it. For instance, say you see a file on your system that has a file extension like: .log (This would be a log file). You can open a log file using Notepad and with a shortcut to Notepad in the Send To folder, you can just right-click on the statistic.log file and choose the option: Send To --> Notepad Notepad would open displaying the statistic.log file in text format. |

But enough of that...let's just do it!

This image shows that Notepad is now in the right-click menu. |
Now right-click on any file and choose "Send To". You will see your new Notepad shortcut. Select it and the file will open in Notepad. You may see only computer code, depending upon the file that you "Send to" Notepad, but it opens it! |
You can do the same thing with any program file shortcut, or folder shortcut. For instance you could make a shortcut to your "My Documents --> My Pictures" folder, then paste it into the Send To folder. Using the Send To right-click menu, your images could be sent directly to the My Pictures folder. This is particularly useful when you have a large number of image files in various save locations to move to a subfolder folder (sorting, in other words). As you locate each picture file that you want to add to your collection, just right click on it and use the Send To command to send the image directly to your collection. When you've completed your special project and have no further need for the entry in the Send To folder, you can just open the Send To folder and delete the shortcut. This avoids unnecessary clutter in the Send To folder menu. |
